What is a soakwell and what purpose do they serve?

Soakwells are underground structures that collect and release unwanted stormwater. The collected stormwater seeps back into the ground and as a result, the storm water merges with the local groundwater.

A soak well forms a void just below the surface of the ground. Stormwater pipes discharge stormwater into the void within the soakwell, subsequently, water infiltrates back into the ground.
